With just a dash of sweetness, these crunchy “lichen” crisps are a tasty way to enjoy daily greens. Often peddled by fungus vendors, these highly nutritious snacks of the Undercity undead are now easy to make yourself.
4 to 6 large kale leaves
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 /4 teaspoon garlic powder
Pinch of cayenne pepper
1. Preheat the oven to 200 º F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Tear the kale into pieces about 2 inches across, discarding any large pieces of stem. In a medium bowl, combine the honey, olive oil, and spices. Toss the kale in this mixture, making sure that each leaf is covered completely, then allow any excess to drip off. Lay the kale on the prepared baking sheet, arranging so that the pieces are touching as little as possible. Bake for about 50 minutes, flipping the kale once halfway through, until the pieces are crisp and flaky. Remove from heat, allow to cool, and enjoy.
