CHAPTER 4 -
Innovation Framework
Fill Your Bucket to the Brim
Although this book is designed for you to intrinsically innovate, it is important to have a context from which to start. Through experience, it has been determined that the following four “buckets
” are the framework of almost all innovation. These buckets
are the platform for you to build your innovation. Your family, career, friends, beliefs, etc. can be put into one or more of these buckets to help you focus. The buckets are health, faith, education, and business.
Some of your buckets may hold two of the same value, and some buckets may be fuller than others. This is a representation of you, so you set the value and there are no wrong answers. Remember to think about connections, especially those that are not obvious.
As an example on how to fill your buckets - a student-athlete loved to braid hair. She would braid some of her teammate’s hair before every game. When asked which bucket she would put that in she said “faith.” She tried to explain her reasoning to the class, but it seemed to only make sense to her…and that is ok…they are your buckets!
In the following exercise you will fill your buckets. In each bucket, list some type of interest, skill, or hobby that you would like to expand upon that relate to that bucket. Here are some examples to help you decide the framework of your bucket.
The following diagram is an example of filled buckets.
