The first meeting of the Economic and Social Council is held.
The Economic and Social Council creates the “Nuclear Commission” to plan a permanent Human Rights Commission (London).
January 1947:
The first meeting of the full Human Rights Commission (HRC) is held.
The HRC names a drafting committee (Lake Success, NY).
June 1947:
Drafting committee meets to create International Bill of Rights.
December 1947:
The second full HRC meeting is held (Geneva); it breaks into three groups with the assignment of creating proposal for the Human Rights Declaration, covenant, and implementation.
May 1948:
The drafting committee meets for the last time in preparation for the full commission’s meeting later that month.
The third and last full HRC meeting takes place to prepare the final draft.
December 1948:
The General Assembly of the United Nations deliberates and adopts the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (December 10).
