A treehouse just doesn’t seem complete without some kind of pulley hoist. Now that your house is built, you can add a permanent pulley in any convenient location. Choose a suitably strong, corrosion-resistant pulley from your local hardware store or building center. While you’re there, buy plenty of rope that’s the right size for the pulley, a metal clip or swivel snap, and maybe a 5-gallon plastic bucket or smaller galvanized metal bucket. Anchor the pulley to your treehouse or tree with a lag eye bolt.
The lofty position of a treehouse inspires all sorts of imaginative play. In kids’ minds, treehouses become pirate ships, mountainside castles, battlements, spaceships, you name it. There are plenty of toys and props available to reinforce these themes, such as periscopes, ship’s wheels, water cannons, and telescopes.
