Overview
A consistently competitive club, coupled with an aggressive marketing campaign has made the Angels a worthy regional rival to the storied Dodgers. Those who find some rugged elements of Dodgers Stadium less “charming” and more “annoying,” will appreciate Angels Stadium. Better organized, easier access, and cheaper parking makes it the Orange County of SoCal baseball stadiums. But even with a few LA defectors in their fanbase, it’s still the team of skinny-jeaned Santa Ana Chipsters (Chicano hipsters) and Suburban driving soccer moms.
If you can stomach rally monkeys and fireworks at home-runs, then you’ll have a lovely day in Anaheim. The stadium comes with all of the amenities that a modern-day baseball fan could want: three full-service restaurants, family-oriented seating, an interactive game area for the kids, and, of course, Vlad the Impaler. It’s almost more amusement park than stadium. But if that’s what it takes to get a new generation out to the old ball game, who can really complain?
How to Get There—Driving
From downtown, take 605 S to the CA-91/Artesia Freeway east. Take the I-5/Santa Ana Freeway exit on the right towards Santa Ana. Merge onto I-5 S and take the exit on the right towards Anaheim Boulevard/Haster Street/Katella Avenue. Turn left onto West Freedman Way, turn right onto South Anaheim Boulevard, and turn left onto East Katella Avenue.
Parking
The parking lot opens two-and-a-half hours prior to the start of the scheduled first pitch and, since there are only three entrances to the Angel Stadium parking lot (via Douglass Road, State College Boulevard, and Orangewood Avenue), we suggest you get there early. Parking staff will direct you towards vacancies. Day-of-game parking is $10 and oversized vehicles (greater than 20 feet in length) are $20.
The bus parking lot is located by the Orangewood Avenue entrance. Season ticket holders with parking coupons can use the Express Entry Lane on Orangewood Avenue.
How to Get There—Mass Transit
If you can get yourself to Union Station (Metro Red Line), you can catch the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner bound for San Diego, which stops not too far from the stadium at Anaheim Station. A one-way fare will set you back $14 and the Orange County Transportation Authority has a bus service to the ballpark. Call 800-636-RIDE for more information on bus schedules.
But unless you’re watching a pitchers’ duel or a complete blowout, the train may not be an option for most night games. The last train back to LA leaves Anaheim just after 10 pm, making an overnight stay in beautiful downtown Anaheim a definite possibility.
Patrons who require a taxi service from Angel Stadium can swing by the Guest Relations Center and ask a concierge to call them a cab.
How to Get Tickets
You can purchase tickets in person at the box office, which is open Monday through Saturday, as well as on Sunday game days, from 9 am to 5:30 pm, or by phoning the box office at 714-634-2000. Online tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com, or look for great seats for cheap on eBay where many locals put up their season tickets for sale.
