Overview
Ever since the Ducks have proven themselves hockey contenders, the drive down to the OC to catch some action on the ice is almost worth it. Sure, it kind of blows getting there, especially if there’s an event at Angels Stadium on that same night (they’re right across the freeway from one another, guaranteeing road rage-inducing traffic congestion), but once inside, you’ll discover that Anaheim’s answer to the STAPLES Center is a snappy, efficient facility. (A facility that until recently had a much snappier name—Arrowhead Pond.) Whether you’re one of the 17,000+ fans who flock to see the latest UFC bout, or even the occasional Tina Turner concert, you’ll appreciate the friendly staff, the easy flow of people traffic, and the edible offerings that will find you before you find them. It’s almost enough to clear up that road rage. Almost.
How to Get There—Driving
From Los Angeles, take 405 S to 22 E to 57 N. Exit on Katella Avenue and turn right, then turn left on Douglas Street. If you’re approaching on I-5 S, exit on Katella Avenue and turn left, then go left on Douglas Street. From I-10, head east to 57 S and exit on Katella Avenue and turn left, then turn left on Douglas Street.
Parking
General parking is $20 for most events, $15 for Ducks games and other sporting events (like UFC); $25 for preferred $25 limos, and $30 RVs and buses (unlimited drop-off and pick-up for an event).
How to Get There—Mass Transit
The Orange County Transit Authority provides transport to Honda Center. Check www.octa.net for schedules or phone 714-560-6272. In addition to OCTA, Amtrak’s station is located within walking distance of the arena, in the parking lot at Angel Stadium. But Amtrak riders beware—the last train back to LA from Anaheim leaves shortly after 10 pm, so unless you’re camping out or leaving early, you might want to make other arrangements for getting home after evening events.
How to Get Tickets
Tickets can be purchased in person at the box office or at Ticketmaster outlets, by calling your local Ticketmaster, or online at www.ticketmaster.com. The box office is open Monday through Friday, 10 am until 6 pm, and Saturday 10 am until 4 pm. Purchase same-day tickets on Sundays—the box office opens three hours before the scheduled event and sells tickets only to that day’s event. A “wristband lottery” for any remaining tickets to popular events takes place the morning of the event, and line-ups begin at 7 am. But even if you’re first in line and receive a wristband, obtaining a ticket is no guarantee. Fifteen minutes before tickets go on sale, one wristband number is drawn randomly and it becomes the starting number for ticket sales.
