These are the descendants of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old when he fathered Arpachshad, two years after the flood; and he lived another five hundred years, and he fathered sons and daughters. And Arpachshad was thirty-five years old when he fathered Shelah; and he lived another four hundred and three years, and he fathered sons and daughters. And Shelah was thirty years old when he fathered Eber; and he lived another four hundred and three years, and he fathered sons and daughters. And Eber was thirty-four years old when he fathered Peleg; and he lived another four hundred and thirty years, and he fathered sons and daughters. And Peleg was thirty years old when he fathered Reu; and he lived another two hundred and nine years, and he fathered sons and daughters. And Reu was thirty-two years old when he fathered Serug; and he lived another two hundred and seven years, and he fathered sons and daughters. And Serug was thirty years old when he fathered Nahor; and he lived another two hundred years, and he fathered sons and daughters. And Nahor was twenty-nine years old when he fathered Terah; and he lived another hundred and nineteen years, and he fathered sons and daughters. And Terah was seventy years old when he fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
These are the descendants of Terah: Terah fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran fathered Lot. And Haran died before his father Terah did, in his native land, Ur of the Chaldeans. And Abram and Nahor took wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, daughter of Haran and sister of Iscah. And Sarai was barren; she had no children. And Terah took his son Abram, and Lot, the son of Haran, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, and they left Ur of the Chaldeans and set out for Canaan; but when they came to Haran, they settled there. And Terah died in Haran when he was two hundred and five years old.
