And Abraham complained to Abimelech about a well that Abi-melech’s men had seized. And Abimelech said, “I don’t know who did this. You never told me, and this is the first time I have heard of it.”
And Abraham set apart seven ewes from his flock. And Abimelech said, “What does this mean?”
And Abraham said, “Accept these seven ewes from me as proof that I am the one who dug this well.” That is why that place was named Beer-sheba, The Well of the Seven.
