One of the few good things about adrenal fatigue is that you can do most of what is necessary to recover and regain your adrenal health, yourself. You do not have to give your power to someone else in the hope that they know what they are doing because they have a license to practice and to prescribe magic pills to make you well. There are no magic pills for adrenal fatigue but there are certainly key lifestyle changes and nutritional supplements that will greatly facilitate your recovery.
Healing from adrenal fatigue requires a combination of things; first and foremost, your recovery depends upon your lifestyle. How you spend your energy, how you conserve your energy, and how you create energy are all extremely important. Your recovery is also contingent on what you eat and drink, as well as on the thoughts you feed your mind and the beliefs you base your life on. A great thing about the program described in this book is that it gives you almost total control over your recovery process. You can design it, implement it, monitor it, adjust it and receive the many benefits from it. This is a wonderful opportunity because, in our society, there is the tendency to give this power away to someone else.
However, this power comes with its own challenges. At this writing, there is not a lot of direct support for people recovering from adrenal fatigue. I hope there will soon be facilities and support groups across the US and the rest of the world but, at this time, you are mostly on your own. The irony is that we have a nation rampant with people suffering from various stages of adrenal fatigue being served by doctors who are unaware of its existence, even though they see it nearly every day in their offices.
For this condition, most of you will have to become your own physician. Ask for help when you need it from friends, from public services, or any available source, but remain in charge of your recovery. The authority to design and implement your own program is a very powerful position. This book will tell you what to do. A complete recovery program is contained in these pages for most of you, but you must do what it says to do and keep following your own recovery. Being in charge is important for adrenal health; researchers have found from earlier experiments that rendering an animal helpless is one of the most rapid ways to deplete its adrenals. Putting yourself in charge does not mean doing it all yourself. As mentioned earlier, you should solicit the help of anyone or anything that will lead to your healthy recovery, as long as it does not compromise their health or well being.
The first, and arguably the most important, part of your recovery program will be concerned with lifestyle. It is the first chapter on recovery and should be first in your priorities. I promise you that the happiness and greater health you will experience when you institute the lifestyle changes in this book will be more than worth the effort it takes to make the needed changes.
