A popular plaque, Home is Where the Heart Is reminds me that the boundaries of home extend far beyond a physical address or blood ties that each of carry. It lends itself not only to a structure, but a place filled with love, peace and forgiveness, deep inside each of us. As I look around and try with all my might to find this feeling of belonging in my new home, I am aware that although I am very thankful for these lovely walls, a peaceful and safe place to sleep at night and a husband and three sons to fill up this space, there is nothing here on this earth that will ever satisfy the deepest longings I have for home like Heaven will. My dream home, the place where I know I will find ultimate peace and love is far removed from any structure or group of people I could find in this stained world. Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells me that “God has set eternity in the hearts of men” and this eternal home will be one of ultimate satisfaction, a place where nothing will leave me wanting more. This place is called heaven and it’s not just for me. It’s offered to all who call on the name of Jesus Christ and accept him as their Savior. Romans 6:23 states, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This longing inside of me reminds me that satisfaction will be reached one day when I get to my final destination, home with my Savior. “So we are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live in these bodies we are not at home with the Lord. For we live by believing and not by seeing. Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:6-8 NLT).
Maybe you’ve never had a real home or maybe you’ve had one that was broken. Maybe your house burned down, was destroyed by a storm or you lost it from financial difficulties. Whatever the situation you find yourself in today, I want you to know that there is hope for an eternal home that will outweigh any earthly or familial structure you‘ve encountered, even if you’ve had the very best of a home that money could buy. Our heavenly home, prepared by God himself, will be one that absolutely nothing here on earth could ever compare to and is available only through belief in Jesus Christ. Don’t waste another moment without knowing where your eternal home will be. Call on Jesus today.
