The Law of Action

chapter ornament

Today I will actively take steps toward
achieving my goals. The more action
I take, the closer I am to success.

The Law of Action, simply put, means you must do something in order to achieve something. In physics, Sir Isaac Newton’s Third Law of Motion states that “for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” To get a reaction, for something to happen, the action has to happen first. You must act to fulfill your dreams, hopes, and desires, and obtain what you want out of life. If you sit back and do nothing, you’re not being an active participant which makes achieving what you want difficult. When you purposefully take action, you’re aiding the universe by letting it know what you want. It might take a little time but you have to do to receive.

It is imperative to understand that someone isn’t going to walk up to you one day and say “Didn’t you want this? Here you go.” That’s not how life works even though some may feel entitled to be treated in this manner. When you feel you deserve to have everything handed to you without doing anything to achieve it on your own, then you’re not reaching your true potential. There is satisfaction in working to attain the things you desire the most. When you receive them, you know it’s because you’ve worked hard and created what you wanted for yourself. No one else did it, you did, and you deserve to reap the rewards of your efforts.

When you set out to reach a goal, your thoughts and emotions must be aligned with your actions and you must work in an ordered manner toward the goal. If you’re not taking action then you need to stop and figure out why. What’s holding you back? Are you afraid to start because you think you might fail? Are you procrastinating because you feel the work will take too much effort? You must discover the reasons preventing you from taking action and address why you’re feeling this way so you can work through it. Otherwise, it’s going to always stay slightly out of your reach. Why? Because you have to take action to get what you want. No one can do it for you. You may not always take the right action, which is a learning experience, but any action is a step toward attaining everything you want in life. So what are you waiting for? There’s no better time than the present to get started.

Start with a To-Do List

Once you start living the Law of Action it will quickly become part of your daily routine. Create a to-do list and check it each morning. As you strike each item from the list as completed, not only do you feel a sense of satisfaction for accomplishing something you needed to do, but you’re also setting the energy of the universe into motion to bring more things to you because there is now room in your life for them. When you have lots of things to do that you’re putting off or not completing, then there’s no room in your life for other things to appear. Clear out the old to let in the new.

Your to-do list shouldn’t consist only of things you have to do because they’re a required part of living like taking out the trash or doing the laundry. It should also contain actions and tasks you can complete to reach your goals. That might include making phone calls, visiting a business associate, or doing something for your neighbor. Even if you don’t achieve your final result with one phone call, you’re taking action that will bring the final result to you. Even if you stumble or experience setbacks, just keep at it and don’t give up. Every little action is keeping you in forward motion. It may not happen overnight but it will happen if you keep at it.

If you’re not sure how to get started, the first place to begin is with your thoughts. What do you really want to achieve in your life? If you don’t know what you want to achieve then you can’t take action. This can result in aimless wandering if you don’t have goals to achieve and a purpose to fulfill. You’ve made a first step by picking up this book. You want to know steps you can take to achieve the things you want in life, but first you have to know what you want. Do you want to take a vacation to the Caribbean? Or would you like to make a six-figure income? Maybe you just want to have less drama and more joy in your life. Maybe you want to obtain all of these! Whatever you want, you can achieve, if you work hard to get there.

So the next question is, what are the right steps? It depends. If you want to take a vacation to the Caribbean then you have to have enough money to pay for the trip so you may have to start saving up for it. Then you’ll have to book a flight, reserve a hotel, pack your bags, go to the airport and then be able to relax while you’re there so you enjoy yourself instead of worrying about what’s going on back home. If you want to make six figures, you’ll have to choose a career that pays six figures. You may have to go to school to study for this career, which may give you little time for a social life. If you want less drama and more joy in your life, you will have to eliminate the cause of the drama, be it a job that you’re unhappy in, friends who keep you on edge, less social media, or anything else that causes you stress. Let these things go and you’ll find that once the drama is gone you’ll feel more joy and happiness. Take a look at your own specific circumstances and decide the first step you’ll take toward what you want in life. Only you know what you want and the actions you need to take.

Creative Visualization Aids Action

When you think about living the Law of Action and creating what you want in life, you will also think about creative visualization and positive thoughts. They all go together and are part of the process of manifesting. You can think yourself into a stupor if that’s all you’re doing. I’m a firm believer in creative visualization. When you hold the thought of something and visualize it in your life, you are making it easier for that thing to appear. But if you’re only visualizing and then just sitting back and waiting for it to show up then you may be sitting there for a very long time. I believe in using creative visualization combined with action to achieve your goals.

Let me give you an example. We breed Barock Pinto horses. The goal is to have a homozygous tobiano (pinto), and a homozygous black colt because as an adult that colt can be a breeding stallion that will always produce a black and white tobiano foal. Now I could sit back and visualize this colt forever, but I’m not going to get him unless I breed my horses and have foals every year. I also have to plan the breedings by considering genetics to have the most opportunity to achieve the results I want. And even then, the universe can have a little fun with you. Our mares had three homozygous tobiano colts in a row over the past two years, and all were chestnut instead of black. The chance of getting this combination was only six percent. I could have considered that a setback but I don’t. We’ve already achieved the most difficult DNA combination possible, so the colt we want is bound to happen. The point is that you don’t give up on your dreams, you keep going and keep trying. While you may not be able to predict or have any control whatsoever over the outcome, you just keep trying until you succeed. Take action, be proactive in your planning and in the steps you’re taking, and eventually you will achieve everything you want in your life.

Believe that you can achieve it, take action to make it happen, and you will achieve your heart’s desires.

Try It Now

Choose one item on your to-do list that you have been putting off. Ideally, pick the one thing you dread having to do more than any other. For this example we’ll say that you are going to clean out and re-organize a closet in your home. You’re dreading this because you know it will take a long time to complete and you’ll make a huge mess during the process. Once you get rid of the clutter and disarray contained inside, you free up the energy in your home to flow through that area with ease. Approach the task in an organized way to make the work go faster. Once completed, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment because you took action to reach your goal.
