Today I see myself as a positive, unique individual striving to achieve the success I desire.
The Law of Relativity, which was first introduced in scientific theory by Albert Einstein, states that everything in our physical world is made real by its relationship to something else. Until you compare two things they stand alone as separate entities. Once you compare two or more things, then they become relative to one another. That means that nothing is big or small until you relate it to something else. A ten-story building is just a ten-story building until compared to a three-story building—then it appears really tall. But a ten-story building compared to a sixty-story skyscraper makes the ten-story building appear very short. It’s all relative. We give meaning in our own minds based on the comparisons we make. Otherwise it just exists as part of the whole.
The Law of Relativity means as spiritual beings we will all experience our own unique set of lessons that will increase our inner light. These lessons often present as tests or problems we have to solve. The Law of Relativity means regardless of how bad we perceive our situation, there is always someone who is having a more difficult time in life than we are and there are always people who are having a much easier time. Our lesson is to be able to become aware of these relative differences and act accordingly. When we compare our situations to others, it strengthens our ability to see life from different perspectives while learning to help ourselves and others based on these perspectives.
We know light exists because we compare it to darkness. In the physical world light translates into daytime and darkness into nighttime. In the spiritual world, we know that there is light within each of us because we see it in the good deeds performed by people every day but we also know there is darkness in each of us because we also see it through the negative actions of others. If the Law of Relativity didn’t exist, then we’d never see the differences or be able to grow in our own spirituality. It’s only in the earthly plane that we see differences in one another, because in the spiritual realm we are all one and the same, a part of the whole, pure light, pure goodness, and eternally at peace with one another. This is what we should also strive to achieve on the earthly plane.
When you think of the Law of Relativity and making comparisons, it’s imperative that you position yourself within the comparison so you are elevating your self-esteem, remaining positive in your thoughts, and are lifting yourself out of negative patterns to be successful in attaining what you want in life. If you approach the Law of Relativity from the negative, you may achieve some success but it will often be a struggle and the ultimate goal may slip through your fingers. If you change your way of thinking from negative to positive, it will be easier to attain your ultimate goal.
Learning through Relativity
If everything is relative then how are you learning lessons? It is all based on your reactions to and actions taken in response to the tests you’ve been given. The more positive your reactions and actions the more you grow spiritually. If your reaction is negative or you have a poor, pitiful, why me, whining attitude which causes you to lash out at others or withdraw within yourself, then this is a negative response which will block your growth and your success. Each lesson will be one you wanted to learn prior to being born in the earthly plane of existence. Try to remember that all of your experiences are to bring you spiritual growth so you will have the proper reactions and take the needed action to achieve that growth.
When you’re living the Law of Relativity you are giving the things in your life meaning. Without this law, life wouldn’t have meaning. You would just exist, doing everything by rote, living without purpose, without goals, and life would be dull and mundane. But it does exist so you can set goals for yourself, strive to achieve these goals by comparing the steps you’re taking to what other successful people have done.
It is important to remember not to use the Law of Relativity against yourself. If you compare yourself to someone who has become proficient at things while you’re still learning or someone who is successful in a field you want to excel in, it’s a good way to keep yourself motivated while reaching for your goal and striving to achieve the same level of success. If you compare yourself unfavorably to the person, you may think they’ve attained so much that you’ll never be able to acquire the same level of success, and then you’re making yourself look bad in your own eyes and will probably feel bad about yourself too. That’s using the Law of Relativity incorrectly and is self-defeating. Don’t make yourself miserable by using the law in a negative way.
Instead use the Law of Relativity to keep you motivated and on track to reach your goals, let it heighten your self-esteem. While the Law of Relativity indicates that you should compare yourself to others who haven’t achieved what you’ve already achieved in order to make yourself look better, I would like to warn against this because you don’t want to give yourself a superiority complex by thinking you’re better than someone else. Comparison of this type can block your progress. Look at your own path and reach higher instead of looking down on others to make yourself feel better. Everyone does something better than someone else; we all have our gifts, talents, and abilities that make us the unique spiritual beings we are. When we understand and accept this, we’re one step closer to living in harmony as one.
Compare, Don’t Judge
The Law of Relativity isn’t about judging other people. It’s simply comparison. It’s a way to notice the good in your life when you’re feeling like things are going wrong. Whatever you’re experiencing right now, no matter how bad or difficult you think your situation is it could always be worse. If you compare your situation to something worse, then the Law of Relativity can help you feel better about the situation and realize it isn’t as bad as you originally thought. It allows you to see the situation differently based on the meaning you’ve given to the comparison you’ve made regarding your situation and another worse situation. If the comparison helps you feel better about your current situation, gives you a clearer picture, or adds more meaning to the way your life is progressing without being judgmental, you’re using the law correctly.
When making comparisons to other people, it’s important to remember that we are each unique individuals with different life plans. Each of our experiences are just as unique as we are on a spiritual level. These experiences add up to put us where we are right now, in this moment, on our life path. Maybe you want to be a champion skateboarder and are comparing yourself to someone who already has achieved that status. Don’t let your falls get you down. The champion had to fall off the skateboard many times to develop the skills needed to become a winner. You can win too and the falls you experience only make your skill that much better. Be thankful for each slip off the board or every bumpy ride because those will enhance your ability and make your success spectacular when you achieve your goal.
Try It Now
Changing your frame of mind while using the Law of Relativity is very important, yet it’s easy to remain stuck in your old ways and a negative mindset. Unless you change the way you think you can be easily frustrated or overwhelmed. So what you’re going to do with this exercise is create a clean slate day. Pick a day on the calendar when you will let go of all negative thoughts and position yourself in a place of relativity that flows with your unique spiritual self and the personal desires you want to achieve. Once you pick a day, you’re going to make a big deal about it every single morning beginning on day one. Now, take two jars and label one with a for positive actions/thoughts and the other with a for negative actions/thoughts. When you’re getting ready for the day, look yourself in the eye and tell yourself that you’re going to have a fantastic day full of positivity, fun, and achievements. Become very aware of your negative thinking so that you recognize it when it happens. Every time you catch yourself thinking or acting negatively, put a quarter in the jar. Then, each time you think or take positive action, take a quarter out of the jar and put it in the jar. Soon the jar will be overflowing and the jar will be empty.
