“Are you sure this is going to work?” I asked Michele as she tied the black satin mask around my eyes.

She nodded enthusiastically, “Uh-huh,” she said brightly, “When Suggy and Phil started talking in class about Phil’s neighbour having a really beautiful boyfriend I realised that it was you they were talking about and so I spoke to Suggy. He’s gonna get him to the ball – so, don’t worry.”

“But I don’t want him to know I’m going. I want to ambush him. I need to make him listen and he’ll likely just leave if he sees me there…”

She nodded patiently, “Iain’s told him you’ve gone home for the weekend. Hopefully, Suggy and Paul have convinced him that it’s still a good idea to go…” She bit her lip and my stomach went into free fall. If I didn’t get things sorted out with him soon, he was going to meet someone else and give up on anything happening between the two of us altogether, I was sure. “Fuck, I hope you’re all right about this.”

She grinned, “Trust us, Paris,” she said, “We’ve got your back.”

God, I hoped she was right…
