Have you ever taken a very exciting ride?
Jonah 1 – 3
Jonah, go to Nineveh,” God said. “Tell the people to stop doing wrong and start doing right. Otherwise I must punish them.”
Jonah didn’t want to obey God. He didn’t want God to care about the bad people of Nineveh. So Jonah boarded a ship sailing away from Nineveh.
Then God sent a storm that almost sunk the ship. The ship’s frightened crew asked Jonah, “What have you done to bring this awful storm on us?”
“I worship God, who made the sea and the land,” said Jonah. “I am running away from him.”
“Why would you do that?” cried the crew. “How should we stop this terrible storm?”
“Throw me into the sea,” Jonah said.
The sailors tried hard to row the ship to land, but the storm was too fierce. Finally, the sailors picked up Jonah and threw him into the sea.
The storm stopped!
God sent a huge fish to swallow Jonah and keep him safe. For three days and nights, Jonah thought about what he had done.
He prayed to God and said he was sorry. God told the fish to spit Jonah out on the beach.
“Go to Nineveh,” God said again. This time Jonah obeyed God, and the people of Nineveh did too!
