Have you ever lost some thing important and then found it again?

Lost and Found

Luke 15

Jesus told this story:

A father had two sons. The younger son asked his father for money, left home, and traveled far away. He wasted his money doing bad things. When the money was gone and the son was hungry, he got a job feeding pigs.

He was so hungry he wanted to eat the pigs’ food!

Finally he came to his senses. “My father’s servants have plenty to eat,” he said. “I will go home to my father. I will tell him I’m sorry for what I’ve done. I don’t deserve to be his son, but I will ask my father to make me his servant.”

So the young man started the journey home.

The father, hoping his lost son would come back someday, often watched for him. When he spotted the young man traveling toward home, his son was still a long way off. The father ran to him, hugged him, and kissed him!

“Father, I’m sorry for the wrong things I’ve done,” said the young man. “I’m not worthy to be your son.”

But the father said, “Quick! Bring my son the best clothes in the house! Get him a ring and sandals for his feet! We must celebrate! My son was lost and now he’s found!”

The father’s older son refused to come to the party. “I’ve always obeyed you,” he told his father, “but you’ve never had a celebration for me.”

“You have always been here with me,” said the father, “and everything I have is yours. We must celebrate and be glad now because my son who was lost has been found!”
