Azim is already an old vampire when Marius is made, so he claims. At present, nothing is known about his maker or about any fledglings he might have made. After more than a thousand years of living as a vampire, he builds a temple in the Himalayas and gains a cult following that refers to him as “the ancient blood god.” His temple thrives for over a thousand more years, and he uses his vampire powers to increase his cult following, the members of which also become his victims during feverish and frenetic ceremonies that worship him. Once he is plump on the blood of his victims, with bronzed skin and wrapped in lavish robes and a silk turban, Pandora visits him in his temple, where his victims are lining up in rows of hundreds to sacrifice themselves to his bloodlust. Because fledgling vampires cannot hear the thoughts of their makers, Pandora hopes to discover from Azim any information about Marius, who is sending out warning signals to other vampires that Queen Akasha has trapped him in ice because the music of the band Vampire Lestat has awakened her. Azim tells her where Marius is buried but only after she partakes of his blood ritual ceremonies and answers his questions about visions of Maharet and Mekare. Pandora leaves, but Queen Akasha comes to him not long after, accompanied by Lestat. Having already incited the Great Burning of 1985, she makes Azim her first great martyr as a lesson to his worshippers. Akasha accuses him of having misled hopeless victims, because she is their blood god. Then she immolates him and causes his head to explode.
