Blood Canticle

• VAMPIRE CHRONICLE •

Following the story in the ninth book in the Vampire Chronicles, Blackwood Farm (2002), the tenth book, Blood Canticle (2003), picks up the love between Tarquin “Quinn” Blackwood and Mona Mayfair, dying in the hospital due to having given birth to her Taltos child, Morrigan. As a favor to Quinn, Lestat saves Mona’s life by turning her into a vampire so that she and Quinn can be together forever. Briefly, they try to keep Mona’s transformation a secret from the Mayfair family, during which time Lestat and Rowan discover deep feelings for each other. Mona desires to find her child, who has run away with the Taltos Ashlar to a secret island where the Taltos live safely away from mortals who seek to harm them. Lestat promises to help his fledgling Mona and her paramour, Quinn. Through Maharet’s guidance, they discover the secret location of the Taltos’ island, but when Lestat, Quinn, and Mona arrive, they learn that Ashlar and Morrigan’s son Silas has incited a civil war and incited Rodrigo and his Drug Merchants to take over the island and kill most of the inhabitants, including Ashlar and Morrigan. Lestat, Mona, and Quinn defeat the Drug Merchants and invite the remaining Taltos to return with them to New Orleans, where they can remain at Mayfair Medical Center, be a part of their family, and live in greater safety and peace. The Taltos agree. Once everyone is settled in their new life, Quinn and Mona depart with the ancient vampire Khayman, who teaches them about being vampires in the modern world.
