Bravennans are alien beings who, by trying to exploit the human race, inadvertently initiate the creation of the vampire race. They call themselves the Parents, but they could also be considered the grandparents of vampires. They appear in Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis (2016).
With luminous eyes, like huge owl eyes, large smiling mouths with thin lips, and massive wings, the Bravennans are an alien race from the planet Bravenna, many light-years from planet Earth. They discover a way to transform the psychic energy of human suffering into physical energy, and they depend upon the suffering as a food source. To facilitate a more efficient means of supplying themselves with food, they abduct an earthling named Amel, transform him into a superhuman, and then send him back to Earth on a mission to repair their transmission stations, although he has no idea of their true plans. When he discovers that he is doing more harm to people than good, out of his own enhanced DNA he develops a substance that he refers to as luracastria and that confuses the Bravennans, who can receive no transmissions through it. Amel covers their transmission stations and his humans in vast cities made of luracastria. But the Bravennans make humanlike creatures called Replimoids. The Replimoids are taught to call the Bravennans their Parents, and the Parents teach them to distrust Amel and all humans. The Bravennans send the Replimoids to Earth in the hope of stopping Amel, but when Amel converts them to his cause, the Bravennans then send a horrific meteor shower that destroys Amel along with all of his luracastric creations. Once hindrances to their plans are eliminated, the Bravennans are free to resume gathering human suffering and transforming its psychic energy into a consumable resource.
