The Designée of the Mayfair Legacy is instituted by the sixth witch in the line of thirteen Mayfair witches, which the spirit of Lasher establishes as a means of incarnating himself as a Taltos. The Designée is the Mayfair witch who inherits the fortune that the Mayfair family has been amassing for many centuries, which, by the time of the twenty-first century, is worth billions. The Designée must wear the Mayfair emerald on her wedding day, and she must keep her Mayfair name. All Designées through the centuries have the ability to control the spirit of Lasher, until he becomes incarnate through Rowan Mayfair. By the time Lestat encounters Rowan, her cousin Mona Mayfair is the Designée, and after her comes Mona’s daughter, Morrigan.
