Little People

• TALTOS •

When the Time Before the Moon ends, forcing the Taltos to move off their island paradise to the mainland of the nearest continent, they are also forced to interact with mortals. Because the Taltos are immortals of very tall stature, mortals fear and respect them. Some mortal tribes capture Taltos and mate with them. One result of this mating is the birth of people who are very short in stature. In time, these short half-Taltos/half-mortal individuals, along with their descendants who bear the same diminutive trait, receive the designation “Little People.” Unlike Taltos such as Ashlar, the Little People are not immortal, but their usual lifespan averages one thousand years. Lestat learns of the Taltos and the Little People when he helps Mona Mayfair free her Taltos children and grandchildren from the Drug Merchants.

Little People appear in Blood Canticle (2003). For more perspectives on the Little People characters, read the Alphabettery entries Ashlar, Lestat de Lioncourt, Mona Mayfair, Taltos, and Time Before the Moon.
