Lorkyn

• TALTOS •

When the two Taltos, Morrigan and Ashlar, move to a secret island owned by Ashlar, where many other Taltos also live, they have four children—two sons, Silas and Oberon, and two daughters, Miravelle and Lorkyn. They live together in relative peace, until Silas begins secretly poisoning their mother and father. When Morrigan and Ashlar are too weak to resist, Silas causes an uprising among the Taltos, convincing many that mortals are dangerous and that the Taltos need to attack those living on nearby islands. Silas imprisons every Taltos who resists, which includes his parents and siblings. His rebellion lasts two years, until a group of mortals living on the nearby island retaliate and kill Silas along with the other rebelling Taltos. The mortals take over the island and imprison the surviving Taltos for another two years, during which time Lorkyn’s parents die. The island is eventually liberated by three vampires—Lorkyn’s grandmother Mona Mayfair, Lestat, and Quinn Blackwood—who kill all the evil mortals. When Mona discovers that her daughter, Morrigan, has died, she takes her and Ashlar’s bodies back to New Orleans, to be studied at Mayfair Medical Center. Mona then invites Lorkyn and her other grandchildren to New Orleans, where they can be together as a family of immortals.

Lorkyn appears in Blood Canticle (2003). For more perspectives on Lorkyn’s character, read the Alphabettery entries Ashlar, Lestat de Lioncourt, Mayfair Medical Center, Miravelle, Mona Mayfair, Morrigan Mayfair, Oberon, Quinn Blackwood, Silas, and Taltos.
