Due to Lasher’s incestuous breeding program, Morrigan Mayfair is not simply the daughter of Michael Curry and Mona Mayfair but also a Taltos, a being from the ancient world who grows to adult size immediately after birth, looking almost exactly like Mona.
To hide her birth from her family, fearing that Rowan Mayfair and Michael Curry will kill her as they have killed two other Taltos, Lasher and Emaleth, Mona acquires for Morrigan a birth certificate and makes her the new Designée of the Mayfair Legacy by giving her the Mayfair emerald, which will make it more difficult to destroy Morrigan.
After Mona finally introduces Morrigan to Rowan and Michael, a friend of theirs appears, the ancient Taltos Ashlar, who, upon seeing Morrigan, feels an immediate attraction to her. Feeling the same for him, Morrigan runs away with Ashlar to a secret island that Ashlar owns, upon which many Taltos live.
While on the island, Morrigan and Ashlar have four children, Silas, Oberon, Miravelle, and Lorkyn, all of whom grow into adulthood in a matter of hours, as with all Taltos newborns. Silas desires to wage war against mortals living on nearby islands and causes a rebellion, secretly poisoning Morrigan and Ashlar to weaken them, then imprisoning his family and all Taltos who do not collaborate with his rebellion. For two years, Morrigan and her family are Silas’s helpless prisoners. Morrigan and her daughter Miravelle try to stop him by blinding Silas with a screwdriver. But his rebellion wages war on the nearby island owned by the drug lord Rodrigo. Rodrigo retaliates by capturing Ashlar’s island, killing Silas and his rebellious Taltos, and imprisoning those other Taltos who do not resist. Rodrigo then locks Morrigan and Ashlar in the large freezer in the compound’s kitchen. By the time Lestat, Quinn, and Morrigan’s mother, Mona Mayfair, liberate the island, Morrigan and Ashlar have frozen to death, embracing each other, covered in frost, with eyes closed like sleeping angels.
Morrigan Mayfair appears in Blood Canticle (2003).
