The younger brother of Louis de Pointe du Lac, Paul is a young man of exceptional spirituality, even experiencing mystical visions of Saint Dominic and the Blessed Virgin Mary. These visions tell Paul to sell everything he owns and use that money to do ministerial work for God in France. These visions also inform Paul that he is to be a great religious leader in France through deeper fervor of spirituality, rejecting the world’s newfound atheism during the French Revolution and the Age of Enlightenment. Louis does his best to be tolerant of Paul’s profound prayer life, but he will not allow the selling of his family’s plantation. Louis and Paul get into a heated argument, which results in Paul seeing a vision and then falling from a great height at the top of the stairs to his death. Paul is buried in Saint Louis Cemetery No. 1. Louis greatly mourns the loss of his brother and blames himself for Paul’s early demise.
Paul de Pointe du Lac appears in Interview with the Vampire (1976). For more perspectives on his character, read the Alphabettery entries Louis de Pointe du Lac and Saint Louis Cemetery No. 1.
