After Maharet is killed by Rhoshamandes, and Mekare the Queen of the Damned no longer desires to continue living without her twin sister, she offers herself to Lestat, urging him to consume her brain and take into himself Amel and his Sacred Core. Becoming the new host carrier of vampire existence, Lestat needs a new title. Instead of becoming the King of the Damned, and having enjoyed being given the unofficial honorific “Brat Prince,” he prefers simply to be called by the title “Prince Lestat.”
The “Prince Lestat” title appears in Prince Lestat (2014) and Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis (2016). For more perspectives on this title, read the Alphabettery entries Amel, Lestat de Lioncourt, Maharet, Mekare, Queen of the Damned, and Rhoshamandes.
