Raphael the Archangel is typically known as God’s healer, as his name literally means “God has healed.” In the Book of Tobit (found in the Catholic and Orthodox Bible canon), Raphael the Archangel came from Heaven to help Tobias heal his wife from demon possession and to heal his father’s blindness.
During Lestat’s pilgrimage through Heaven and Hell with Memnoch, he encounters Raphael the Archangel, one of the most important angels in the celestial hierarchy, ranking slightly lower than Michael the Archangel. In the book Memnoch the Devil, Raphael is portrayed as weeping for the fallen Memnoch.
Raphael the Archangel is written of in Memnoch the Devil (1995). For more perspectives on Raphael the Archangel in the Vampire Chronicles, read the Alphabettery entries Lestat de Lioncourt, Memnoch, and Michael the Archangel.
