On his pilgrimage through Heaven and Hell with Memnoch the Devil, Lestat loses his eye. When he goes back to Earth, Memnoch returns Lestat’s eye wrapped in vellum upon which is written a note thanking Lestat for participating in Memnoch’s hidden plan. The reality of this drives Lestat to madness. He can be restrained only by the strong strands of Maharet’s hair and is then locked in the basement of Saint Elizabeth’s Convent.
Saint Elizabeth’s Convent appears in Memnoch the Devil (1995). For more perspectives on Saint Elizabeth’s Convent in the Vampire Chronicles, read the Alphabettery entries Lestat de Lioncourt, Maharet, and Memnoch.
