Santh

• VAMPIRE •

Santh, a shortened form of Gundesanth, is the third vampire made by Akasha after Enkil and Khayman in the fourth millennium B.C. The exact dates of his transformation remain a mystery at present, but it is likely that Akasha transforms him into her fledgling after Khayman transforms Maharet and Mekare into vampires, not long before Akasha also transforms Nebamun into the vampire Captain of the Queens Blood. Gundesanth (as he was known then) becomes a prominent member of the Queen’s blood priesthood and an excellent companion for Nebamun. He hunts every maverick vampire mercilessly for the Queen. But when he grows disillusioned with Akasha and Enkil, he defects from the priesthood and disappears from history. He changes his name from Gundesanth to Santh because, by his reasoning, Gundesanth is a name to be feared, while Santh is a name meant to inspire trust.

His blood becomes legendary. Many vampires claim to be made by him, but only one claim ever proves true, that of Baudwin.

When Baudwin attacks Lestat in the twenty-first century, his behavior so infuriates Santh that he comes out of hiding and dismembers his fledgling in Château de Lioncourt, giving his blood to the Court of the Prince’s blood drinkers. Santh grows to love and admire Lestat, especially after observing him destroy Rhoshamandes. Santh vows fealty to Prince Lestat and joins the Court of the Prince.

When Akasha, Enkil, Khayman, Maharet, and Mekare all die in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, Santh becomes the most ancient vampire in the world, with the purest blood of all vampires.

Santh appears in Blood Communion (2018). For more perspectives on Santh’s character, read the Alphabettery entries Akasha, Baudwin, Château de Lioncourt, Gregory Duff Collingsworth, Gundesanth, Lestat de Lioncourt, Nebamun, and Rhoshamandes.
