Silas

• TALTOS •

Silas is one of Ashlar and Morrigan Mayfair’s four Taltos children. Along with his parents and siblings—Oberon (brother), Miravelle (sister), and Lorkyn (sister)—they live on a secret island, unbothered by mortals. Unlike his other siblings, Silas desires to wage war against the mortals living on nearby islands. He rebels against his parents and starts an uprising on the island that involves numerous other Taltos. For two years, he keeps his parents and siblings hostage, while he works out his plan of attack on the nearest island, owned by the drug lord Rodrigo. During that time, he also slowly poisons his parents, bringing them close to the point of death. Silas steals guns from the Drug Merchants and openly attacks them. Rodrigo and his Drug Merchants come to the island, kill many Taltos, overrun it, and take the remaining Taltos hostage. In an effort to stop Silas’s ongoing war against Rodrigo, his sister Miravelle and his mother, Morrigan, blind him with a screwdriver. As a result of his wounds and his rage, he and other rebelling Taltos try to make one last attack against Rodrigo. They charge at the Drug Merchants with guns blazing, but they are vastly outnumbered. Silas and the other rebel Taltos are gunned down as they run.

Silas appears in Blood Canticle (2003). For more perspectives on Silas in the Vampire Chronicles, read the Alphabettery entries Ashlar, Drug Merchants, Elath, Lorkyn, Miravelle, Morrigan Mayfair, Oberon, Releth, Rodrigo, Silas, and Taltos.
