Torwan is one of the few remaining Taltos females who live on a secret island owned by the ancient Taltos Ashlar; his wife, Morrigan; and their four children—Silas, Oberon, Miravelle, and Lorkyn. Unhappy with their state of affairs, Silas causes an uprising among the Taltos and attacks nearby islands, one of which is owned by mortal Drug Merchants. The Drug Merchants retaliate by viciously attacking Ashlar’s island. Most of the Taltos are shot and killed. A few are captured, Torwan among them. When she sees her chance, Torwan attempts to escape on a boat, but the Drug Merchants catch her and stab her to death on the pier.
