BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Most roleplaying games involve a difference in power – that’s what gives roleplay its special frisson. So, if you’re new to roleplaying, sit down with your lover and answer the questions that are on the following page (do this separately, then compare your answers):

• Do you fantasize about being in charge and having complete sexual control?

• If you’re in charge, would you be kind and giving, or bossy and strict?

• Do you fantasize about being helpless in bed?

• If you’d like to be helpless, do you like the idea of being overpowered or “taken”?

• Do you want to play different roles depending on your mood – sometimes dominant, sometimes submissive?

Now talk to your lover about how your fantasies could fit together. Does one of you want submission and the other dominance, or do you both crave either one? How do you feel about overpowering each other? Women who have lots of responsibility, pressure and commitment in their life tell me they find it liberating to be helplessly dominated during sex – to finally let go and let someone else be boss. But if you’re shy and retiring, you may find it exciting to let your powerful and commanding side out to play.

WHO WILL YOU BE TONIGHT?

• Voyeur and exhibitionist – you’re in your bedroom, taking your clothes off, caressing yourself. When you’re naked and turned on, you start masturbating. Outside the bedroom door is a stranger who’s been spying on you. He’s extremely excited – what happens next?

• Artist and model: the artist insists that you pose naked for him. You enjoy the eroticism of lying back knowing that every curve of your body is being observed and enjoyed.
