A FEW MONTHS had gone by, Sophia’s bruises were healed and the builders they had hired were hard at work building their homes. They decided to build them in Camelot, because Sophia wanted to open a school closer to where more children lived. Also, it was much safer being in Camelot than where Lamorak’s castle was located. King Arthur sent out several knights on a quest, one that Lamorak was supposed to be on, but didn’t go because of Sophia. It was a good thing, because those knights were ambushed and brutally killed. They were on a quest to save the last of the white dragons. Rival knights from the north, looking to kill the dragons, ambushed and killed all of the King’s knights that went on the mission.
It was late one afternoon that Sophia noticed again how Kanani kept disappearing at the same time of day. This was a dog that would never leave her side. Today, Sophia excused herself from her sister when she saw Kanani taking off again. They were watching over the builders, getting minor details fixed.
Too Sophia’s amazement she saw Merlin the Wizard! Should she be worried? That sneaky little dog, what was she up to without me?
Sophia followed them through the market; people threw Kanani tidbits of food. Sophia was getting upset; she didn’t like Kanani to go off of her diet like that. She had to change things soon.
Next, they went through the cemetery gate by the side of the castle. She followed them through and watched them go around to the back of the castle and go through a door. Merlin unlocked it and let Kanani in, then himself.
What was this about? Should se wait? She decided to hide behind a headstone and see what would happen next. Sophia made herself as comfortable as possible. It was getting later in the afternoon and her stomach was growling, she was hungry. It was time to go back and make dinner, but she decided to wait ten more minutes. Finally, he door opened and Kanani came out running right past Sophia, high tailing it back home without noticing her.
Pant pant, I’d better hurry, Sophia will be looking for me. Kanani sprinted through the market not even stopping to beg.
Merlin left shortly after and presumably went back to his place. Sophia hesitantly went over to the door and turned the knob. It was a heavy door, Merlin forgot to lock it, she pulled it open. Sophia walked into the dark cold hall, she couldn’t see in front of her so she put her hand against the wall. She felt her way down the winding hallway and then all of a sudden someone spoke to her! She stifled a scream and held her breath. She wanted to run!
