“WHO GOES there?” The voice said.
Sophia froze, terrified.
“I know you’re there, say something!” The voice said again getting agitated.
“Um, Sophie.”
“Well, who is Sophie?” The voice asked.
“Kanani’s human,” she answered shakily.
“Oh, I like Kanani. Do you know Merlin?” The voice continued the conversation. It sounded like a young voice.
“Yes, not well but I saw him. I noticed Kanani missing every day for a while and today followed her to see what she was up too. Who are you,” Sophia asked?
“My name is Gunther, I’m a friendly dragon.” he replied.
“A DRAGON?” Sophia shouted! She didn’t mean to shout, but a dragon? She didn’t believe in dragons.
“I won’t hurt you!” he whined back at her.
Sophia grabbed the wall tighter and inched forward two more steps. She peaked around the corner. She was amazed; it was the most beautiful place she had ever seen. It must have been the length of the whole castle! There were lights, windows, trees, grass, and a cave for Gunther. There was everything here to make him feel like he was living outside. Then she laid her eyes on Gunther! He was the most beautiful creature she had ever-laid eyes on!
“What are you doing in King Arthur’s dungeon?” she asked him.
He answered saying, “Men are killing all of the white dragons. There was an awful battle, my parents were killed and King Arthur saved me. I was a baby and he brought me here to hide me. There are more of us that need saving. Merlin comes to talk to me and feed me daily. I dream of being outside and being able to go wherever I want to go. Merlin agrees something must be done with me soon.”
“Well, let me see what I can find out. Is there anything I can bring you? “
“Yes, will you come back again with Kanani to talk to me?” Asked the dragon.
“Yes, but I must go for now, I will be back tomorrow.”
“Ok, good night,” Gunther told her.
“Good night, Gunther,” she told him, then turned around and made her way back down the hallway and outside. She closed the door and sat down in disbelieving awe. Sophia looked around. Did she just talk to a dragon? She had to go find Lamorak.
