GUNTHER DECIDED to take a swim. He jumped into the pool of water under the waterfalls. Kanani jumped in after and swam circles around Gunther as he splashed in the water. Sophia was laughing so hard she doubled over holding her stomach. This at least was some relief from the stress of waiting for the rest of their team to arrive. This went on for a while then Sophia saw Merlin come walking back from his daily task to the watchtower. Every day Merlin walked back to the same place Gunther took them when fleeing from the enemy. He climbed that same tree and watched to see if he could see any signs of Lamorak and the others. It was no different today; he looked so disheartened it made Sophie feel bad.
“Hi Merlin, still no sign of anyone?”
“No Sophia, nothing. I think we should talk about leaving tomorrow and having Gunther fly us to our destination. It will take a lot longer for anyone to ride a horse or walk there, so we will have plenty of time to look for Gunther’s family. What do you think?” Merlin asked her.
“I think it’s a good idea, Merlin. Maybe we just missed them because they didn’t come this way through the woods.”
“True, so we need to depart in the morning. It looks like Gunther and Kanani are having a lot of fun. They deserve it.”
“I agree Merlin. Come sit next to me and talk. We can start dinner soon.”
“Alright.” With that Merlin sat down next to her so they could plan their next move.
In the morning they gathered their supplies and scrambled onto Gunther.
“Gunther let’s fly back a bit and over the road to see if we can find anyone in our group.” Said Merlin.
“Ok, I can do that, is everyone ready?” asked Gunther.
“Yes, Kanani and I are all ready, Merlin is aboard too, so lets go Gunther.” Sophia said.
“Ready for takeoff, Gunther is going,” he said.
He flew them back to the edge of the forest; they searched the ground under them and saw no one. Then he flew over the dirt road winding through the thick forest for a long time and still they saw nothing. Sophia was so disappointed but knew in her heart they had to go on. She had lost her phone, the only communication with the outside world. They were truly on their own in a century from long ago.
Gunther then turned and flew over the forest so they would be protected from anyone seeking to harm them, and headed for Scotland. That night they got into what is now known as Ayr; on the western border of Scotland; along the shore of the Firth of Clyde. It was beautiful! They found a cave to sleep in acing the water. Merlin got them some food and they camped that night with no fire. They didn’t want to attract any attention to themselves. Sophia was so happy they had not encountered any enemies. In the early morning hours, barely twilight, they heard noises.
“Shh,” said Merlin as he got up and crept out towards the cave entrance. He motioned for Sophia to come to him. She groggily got up and looked out.
There were Trolls walking through the area!
