Jason looked in his rear-view mirror to find his three friends had dozed off. Rachel’s head rested on Zach’s shoulder while Rennay’s was against the window. He smiled to himself, liking the feeling of being the one doing the driving so the others could relax, and knowing that he had been blessed when it came to finding friends. Sarah caught his smile and matched it, wanting very badly at that moment to reach over and take his hand in hers. She tried to remember just why they couldn’t get along as a couple, and came up with very little. All the answers to the question seemed petty and insignificant.

Rain pitter-pattered against the windshield as an old gas station came into view.
