CHAPTER 11

Officer James Shifflett had just taken his dick out of his mistress’s mouth when the call came in over his radio. Something about a domestic disturbance. He was barely listening. Sounded like the same bullshit call he’d gotten twice a week for the last fifteen years. Some bitch who got herself in trouble for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some husband and wife or boyfriend and girlfriend, usually drunk or high, fighting over whatever they could conjure up to fight about. He’d drive to wherever he was told to go, attempt to talk some reason into the couple, and eventually haul one of them off to jail where they’d stay the night. Nothing more ever came of it, and he often wondered how pissed off tax-payers would be if they knew exactly what they were paying him for.

“Can you come back later?” asked Lena, wiping her mouth.

“You know I can’t,” Officer Shifflett replied. “Mary is already suspicious of us as it is. Last thing I need is her wondering why I’m working late again.”

“Three months ago you told me you were going to leave her, anyway. Just get it over with so we can be together.”

“It’s not that simple,” he replied coldly. “I have to go. You head on back in the house now.”

“Asshole!” Lena slammed the patrol car door and stormed off toward her front door. Officer James watched her ass the entire way, dreaded the day he’d have to give up fucking her to save his marriage. But if he left Mary he knew she’d end up with the house, the car, the kids and worst of all, Bear, the golden retriever he’d raised from a pup. But my God, what an ass…He thought about it as he made the half-hour trip to the middle of nowhere.
