CHAPTER 12
“Do you think they’ll turn back into people when the sun comes out? You know, like in the movies,” asked Sarah.
Everyone looked to everyone else for an answer, as if there might be an expert hidden among them. Eventually, Jason spoke. “I hope so. I don’t know how else we’re going to get out of here. At some point we may have to make a run for it.”
“Are you crazy?” Rachel’s face was puffy from crying, her words slurred. “After what that thing did to Zach? Did you see it? He was…” the rest of her sentence dissolved in a pool of tears.
“It’s okay, Rachel. We’re going to be okay. We’re going to get out of here.” Rennay couldn’t manage to force any false confidence into her voice, and her comment did little to comfort anyone.
“There’s a small window over there.” Sarah pointed to the far end of the room where a lone two-pane window was nestled just below the ceiling. “They can’t get in through there, but we can definitely make it out.”
“And then they catch us and eat us. No thanks,” Rachel snapped.
“Rachel, calm down.” Sarah reached over and placed a hand on her knee. “The police will be here soon…with guns. Maybe they’ll get rid of these things for us and we can walk out of here through the door.” Rachel nodded yes and continued to weep, unconvinced.
A moment of silence swept over the group. Outside, a chorus of chilling howls filled the night.
