Best ways to learn a language
Mitchell:
I want to improve my Japanese.
Lacey:
You speak Japanese?
Mitchell:
Yes, a little.
Lacey:
I didn’t know that.
Mitchell:
I started learning Japanese three or four years ago.
Lacey:
Really? Why?
Mitchell:
I love the language and the culture. I went to Japan when I was a child. After that, I have always been interested in Japan.
Lacey:
That’s interesting. How do you study Japanese?
Mitchell:
I take an online course and I have an app on my phone. But I’m not really getting better.
Lacey:
Do you watch Japanese movies or TV shows?
Mitchell:
Sometimes.
Lacey:
Maybe you should watch them more often.
Mitchell:
I try to. But sometimes it’s hard to understand the dialogue.
Lacey:
Try watching with Japanese subtitles. Then you can read Japanese and listen at the same time. Doing that will help both your listening and your speaking skills.
Mitchell:
That’s a good idea. What else should I do?
Lacey:
Do you ever speak to Japanese people?
Mitchell:
Not really.
Lacey:
My friend is in a Japanese and English language and cultural exchange group. You should join the group. They meet once a month and practice English and Japanese.
Mitchell:
Oh, that sounds perfect!
Lacey:
I will get the information for you!
