Alexis:
Hi, David. Can I see you in my office? I want to talk to you about something.
David:
Yeah, no problem.
Alexis:
I want to talk to you about your tardiness. You have been more than ten minutes late seven or eight times recently. We talked to you about it and you promised to be punctual. But you are still coming to work late. If you continue to be late, we will have to terminate you.
David:
I’m really sorry. I have three roommates and they always have parties. Sometimes I can’t sleep because it’s so loud. And sometimes I go to the parties because I just moved to this city and I want to meet people and have fun.
Alexis:
I understand that you want to meet people and have fun, but this is your job. It’s important that you are punctual.
David:
Can I just arrive at work at eight thirty instead of eight o’clock? And then stay until five thirty instead of five o’clock?
Alexis:
No, David. Our employees must arrive at eight o’clock.
David:
I don’t think that’s fair. I work hard and I have helped the company a lot.
Alexis:
Yes. But you have to respect the rules. You know, David… your attitude is not very good. We need employees that are punctual and responsible. This Friday will be your last day.
David:
What?!
Alexis:
I’m sorry, David. You can’t work here anymore.
