A green thumb
Rich:
Hi, Maryann.
Maryann:
Hello, Rich! How are you today?
Rich:
I’m great. How are you?
Maryann:
I’m good. I’m just watering my plants.
Rich:
I actually wanted to talk to you about your plants.
Maryann:
Oh really?
Rich:
Yes. My family and I are taking a trip for two weeks, and I wanted to ask you if you can water our plants while we are gone.
Maryann:
Of course! I’m always happy to help my favorite neighbors.
Rich:
Thanks so much! I am so bad with plants. I never know how much water or light to give them. They always die.
Maryann
: Oh no! Well, I’m happy to teach you a little about plants. People say I have a green thumb.
Rich:
What do you mean? Your thumb isn’t green.
Maryann:
Ha ha. No, I don’t mean it’s actually
green. “A green thumb” means you are good at taking care of plants.
Rich:
Oh! I’ve never heard that before.
Maryann:
Really?!
Rich:
Really.
Maryann:
Well, now you know that expression! And after I teach you about plants, maybe your thumb will turn green, too!
Rich:
I hope so! My wife says I always kill our plants. She will be happy if our plants stay alive.
Maryann:
I’m sure your plants will be happy, too!
