Right-handed or left-handed?
Santiago:
You’re right-handed, aren’t you?
Lauren:
Yeah. You are too, right?
Santiago:
Yes. But my dad and brother are left-handed.
Lauren:
Oh, interesting. Does right- and left-handedness run in families?
Santiago:
I have no idea. But I’ve heard that personality and other characteristics are connected to your dominant hand.
Lauren:
Really? What have you heard?
Santiago:
I’m not sure if it’s true, but I read that right-handed people often score higher on intelligence tests and they live longer.
Lauren:
Oh wow. No way.
Santiago:
And left-handed people tend to be more creative and are more likely to be geniuses. Oh, and left-handed people earn something like 25 percent more money than right-handed people.
Lauren:
Whoa. I wonder why that happens.
Santiago:
Well, maybe if I were left-handed I’d be a genius and understand why!
Lauren:
Ha ha, true! We aren’t smart enough to understand it.
Santiago:
There have also been a lot of world leaders and historical figures who were left-handed. Obama is left-handed. So are George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. Supposedly, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and Napoleon were lefties. And some musicians like Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix.
Lauren:
Wow, how do you know so much about this?
Santiago:
I don’t know! I think it’s fascinating.
Lauren:
It is. Now I wish I were left-handed.
Santiago:
Well, you’re twenty-eight years old, so I’m not sure you can change that now!
