You should talk to the professor
Debbie:
I don’t think I’m doing very well in this class.
Phil:
Really? Why? Is the class difficult?
Debbie:
Yes, it’s a little difficult, but I’ve been working a lot and I haven’t been able to study as much as I would like. I only have about one hour a night to do homework and study for tests. I need about three hours!
Phil:
Oh, I see. That’s too bad.
Debbie:
I need to get a good grade in this class, too. So, I’m a little worried.
Phil:
Can you work a little less?
Debbie:
Not right now. I need to help my family.
Phil:
I understand. Maybe you can talk to the professor and see if he can give you a little extra time to finish assignments?
Debbie:
I’ve been thinking about doing that. But professors don’t like it when students ask for extensions. When you enroll in a class, that’s a commitment you make and you have to take it seriously.
Phil:
I know. But you never know. The professor may be understanding.
Debbie:
Yeah… I think I’ll go talk to him during his office hours tomorrow.
Phil:
Let me know how it goes.
Debbie:
I will.
(The next day.)
Debbie:
So, I talked to the professor.
Phil:
Yeah? How did it go?
Debbie:
He was really nice. He’s giving me an extension on the homework this week and next week. I’m so grateful.
Phil:
That’s so nice of him. See? I told you to talk to him!
Debbie:
I know. I felt so bad for asking, but I’m glad I did.
Phil:
Well, hopefully after a couple weeks your schedule will calm down and you’ll have time to balance everything.
Debbie:
I hope so!
