EPILOGUE I

RUSSIAN MILITARY FACILITY SOMEWHERE IN SIBERIA

A concrete-walled laboratory deep beneath a mountain.

A row of six glass tanks lines the walls.

Two Russian men watch the television news as it reports on the death of the Fury of Russia and his sons.

One is a Russian general.

The other is more dangerous.

His round wire-rimmed glasses frame his thin, gaunt face.

He is the final son of the Fury, the Fury of Sevastopol, but he is known in elite Russian military circles simply as the Genius.

‘My father should have listened to me. He should have waited. We would have been ready soon.’

On the TV set, he sees the footage of Cassie on Instagram delivering her message to the world.

The Genius watches her closely.

‘But it’s not a total loss. Now we know about her.’
