Make Herbal Pills
[Adapted from Sweet Remedies by Dawn Combs]
Herbal honey pills are really not much different from electuaries (see Make a Medicinal Honey); they are simply mixed with more powdered herb and less honey. Instead of blending to a spreadable consistency, the goal is to create a kneadable dough. These soft pills are a convenient way to take an electuary with you while you’re on the go.
- 1. Combine powered herbs and a small amount of honey in a bowl and blend until you have a slightly sticky dough. It is better to add your honey just a tablespoon at a time rather than to add a big dollop. You’ll be surprised by how little honey this takes. Stir well after each addition because it takes a minute or so for the herbs to absorb the honey.
- 2. Roll a pinch or two of the sticky dough in your palm to form a small round ball about the size of a pea.
- 3. In a separate bowl, measure out a few tablespoons of a sweet powder for coating the pills. Cocoa powder, marshmallow root powder, or cinnamon would work well.
- 4. Roll or toss the pills in the coating powder. Store the finished pills in the refrigerator. A standard serving is three or four pills two or three times per day.
