The diver’s head appeared; he grasped the edge of the well and heaved himself out onto the floor. The worried operator sank down on his haunches beside him. “Are you all right, Mick?” he asked again. “What happened down there?”
The diver pulled off his mask and passed a hand across his face. “There’s a body down there,” he said shakily. “Gave me a hell of a turn.” He shuddered and took a deep breath. “It’s got no face,” he said. “No face at all.”
