Hat is worked using largest hook for all sizes. Smaller sized hooks are used for appliqués based on finished hat size.
Rnd 1 (RS): Starting with MC, J hook, and magic lp technique, ch 1; 6 sc in lp. Join with a sl st to first sc. (6 sc)

With CC, H (I, J) hook, and working with a magic lp, (ch 3, tr, ch 1, sc, ch 1, tr, ch 3, sl st) in magic lp. Pull to tighten. Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew eyes and nose onto hat using long tails. Using CC, embroider mouth design similar to picture. Cut twelve 22" (56cm) (24", 26" [61cm, 66cm]) lengths of each color yarn. Use 6 strands of each color per side. Fold strands in half and insert into ch-2 sp at bottom of earflap. Fold over and pull long end through lp to secure. Separate strands into 3 sections mixing the colors. Braid. Tie ends in an overhand knot and trim. Rep for second side.
