Chapter Six

They made it through the next two days without any incident. Well, without danger, Dax was in hell, literal hell, sleeping in the same room with Jas had proven to be a very bad idea. It would have been so much easier if he didn’t want her so damn bad. The first night had been the worst because Jas was determined to drive him crazy. When they entered the room, Jas had instantly grabbed her bag and gone into the bathroom. Dax took that time to pull off his sleeping shorts and get into bed.

He almost groaned when she walked out of the bathroom. She was wearing a long tee, fuck her long, lithe legs were fucking amazing. She went right to her bed and slid in, pulling the covers up to her neck. He wanted to chuckle, she didn’t realize she could have seven layers of clothes and covers wrapped around her, and he would still want her. There was just something there.

“Well goodnight,” Jas said and turned off the light. Dax grinned into the dark and replied.

“Goodnight.”

They were silent for a few minutes, and then Jas spoke softly. “Do you like riding?”

Dax looked over to her as if he could actually see her and said, “Love it, I used to ride all the time on leave. Just me and the road.”

Jas sighed and said, “I love it as well, I mean driving by myself, living with the club there is always someone around, you know? So, when I go and ride by myself, it is like I am the only one in the world. I just go, without a thought, drive, who knows where I will end up. Truthfully it doesn’t matter either because it is just me and the road.”

“Yeah, I hear ya,” Dax said softly. “I solve a lot of problems on the road, it clears the mind and soul.”

“That’s a good way to put it,” Jas said, and they fell silent. After a few moments, Jas said, “You know you aren’t that big of an asshole.”

Dax smiled and turned over and went to sleep, just being in the same room with her, Dax had the best sleep he had in a long fucking time.

Dax felt like they were in the grove; everyone knew what they were doing and going, so they were relaxed, that is, until the last two hours of the trip to Paris. As they got closet, he could see Jas looking around more to make sure they didn’t have a tail, and Roger was also more alert, he had fallen back a few miles and then sped up to catch them several times. Dax was just tense. He went over the mission in his head.

They would go to the hotel and check-in, then they would go to the Eiffel Tower to a small restaurant right next to it and wait. For how long he had no clue, he only knew they needed to be there by four in the afternoon. Their contact had no name, and they didn’t know what he looked like, which put them at a disadvantage. Dax didn’t like that; in fact, he hated it, not being in control. He had Jas, and Roger to look after.

They were about an hour to Paris when he waved at the others to pull over at the next gas station. They just needed to discuss the plan and what to do if it went wrong. They had plenty of time; the meeting was still five hours away. So, they pulled over slowly, and Dax led them to the side of the gas station. When they all got off, he said that both Jas and Roger were tense as shit.

“Okay,” Dax said slowly. “I think we need to have a meeting here rather than at the hotel where others can hear about what we are doing.”

Jas nodded and then looked at Roger, who was nodding as well. She spoke up, “According to my papers Fling sent me, you and I are to go to the restaurant by the Eiffel Tower, that is where the contact will meet. We stay in Paris for a few days, looking at the sites and stuff just like a honeymoon couple would do, and then we take off and head west. The contact should give us a napkin on the day to pick up. As long as everything goes as it should, we will be fine.”

Roger said, “I will follow at a safe distance to see if anyone was following you. If there is, I will give you the heads up, and we will need to do this pass off another day.”

Dax nodded, “Fling assured me that if we were spotted, he would have an alternative route out of here.”

Jas nodded, “All I have to do is call my mom and tell her it is raining in Paris, and we will have the exit plan.”

Dax looked at her, “What are the odds?”

“Of this going smoothly?” Jas asked and then pursed her lips and looked to the sky. “We will deliver the package; it is afterward I am worried about. Mostly because in my experience with these assholes is that no one is safe. They seem to know where we are and what we are doing before we even do it. They have blown covers so easily there is no way there is not someone on the inside who can get this information. Fling cleared everyone in both clubs, which meant it was someone higher up who we answer to. It doesn’t give any of them warm fuzzies.”

“So basically, we are going to need to be prepared afterward,” Dax said, and Jas nodded.

“Fling and the Sisters have made sure that they have no clue why I am over here. But they know I am over here, and they like to fuck with the Furies and Sisters, and so far, they have done a fuckin good job of it.” Jas replied. “We have had one cluster fuck after another.”

“And yet, your mom sent you here.” Dax frowned.

“Fuck no,” Jas laughed. “She didn’t have a choice, but she made sure I had a way to get out. My dad’s and mom worked their own connections over here and made sure we had a place to hide out.”

Dax frowned. “Okay, so where do we do if the shit hits the fan?”

Jas said seriously, “We split up and meet in Madrid five days from now.”

Dax shook his head, “Fuck no, we are not splitting up.”

Jas responded immediately and said, “Yes, we are, because they will be looking for three of us, not someone traveling alone.”

“Honey, I hate to tell you, but your hair is gonna stick out like a sore thumb.” Dax drawled. “So, you are not going by yourself because your hair is like a beacon to these assholes, and I would rather not spend the time it will take to rescue your ass instead of laying low and traveling.”

Jas sighed and leaned over, grabbed her bag, and opened it. She had hair dye, it was red, and all he could think about was having her red hair sprawled across his pillows. Shit.

“I am ready,” she said firmly, and Dax shook his head again.

“Not a wise move.”

She put the hair dye back and then turned and stared at him for a few minutes before saying. “Listen I get what you think because I am a chick and all, I can’t take care of myself but trust me, living with the Ops and Lady Rider they trained me well and by that I mean, they trained me on every weapon they had, as well as hand to hand combat. I can hold my own. So, get that out of your head right now. I will make it to Madrid by myself.”

It went against everything he believed in. “He was protective of his team, his country, hell, everyone who he worked it. Jas was no different. He could see the wisdom in the plan; he just didn’t like it. Roger stepped up.

“Listen,” he said diplomatically. “How about this, we look over the maps, and we make sure that we know which route the other is taking. We check in every few hours, and if we are good, then maybe we can meet up sooner. But we need to leave separate; we could stick out like a sore thumb.”

Dax thought for a few minutes and then nodded. “Let’s get to the hotel and decide how we go. We only leave our bags after the meeting in case we need to leave. Sound good?”

Jas nodded, “Let’s get a move on.”

They arrived at the hotel with plenty of time to go over the exit routes and the times it would take them to get to Madrid and to the safe house Shady and her dads already had come up with. Fling and Doc were also aware of the plan and knew this was their only route. Jas colored her hair quickly and much to the astonishment of Dax; she had no stains on her neck or forehead.

And going back to get the drive was going to be dangerous. So, more planning was needed if this was to work. Jas only knew she hadn’t been keen on going to Madrid, but she was planning for the worst, hoping for the best-case scenario. The time they had remaining was spent with each of them checking out their bags and their weapons. Maxi and Easy had set her up; she had what she needed and saw both men did as well. It amused her to see that Roger had a rather large stash of weapons in his bag. Loki’s mom had been right when she said he was a badass in his time.

Jas picked up the phone to call her mom, “I need to check-in. I will tell mom about our plan. And see if they have found out who blew your cover.”

Dax nodded and then continued to pull weapons out of his bag and to put them on his bike where he could get to them fast. Jas turned and walked to the window as she dialed, even from where they were, she could see the Eiffel Tower and also the smaller version of the Statue of Liberty. Very cool, she thought as she listened to the phone begin ringing. It only took two rings, and her mother was on the phone.

“Okay, how is it going,” Shady said briskly, and Jas knew her mother was going to be all business this time on the phone.

“Fine, we reached the hotel and made an exit plan if shit goes sideways,” Jas said slowly, and Shady asked.

“Just saying, you know there is like a 70/30 chance it is gonna go sideways. There is no way we are that lucky. With the shit swirling around, and the chatter Fling and Doc have been picking up. So, what are you going to do when all this happens?”

Jas rolled her eyes. “Get gone like fast and move to Madrid to the safe house.”

“You have the address?” Shady asked.

“Yep, and the route. Come on; you drilled this shit in my head.” Jas said.

“Really, well, I needed to make sure my daughter was not going to get killed in another country, which would totally upset everyone. Freedom has been sniffling for days, DAYS; she is so worried. And Harmony has been sharpening her knife. They are preparing to come to save your ass. And I have to say, your dad’s, well, they are not too hip on you staying with some man overnight in the same hotel room.”

Jas grimaced and then said, “Okay, calm down, I know what I have to do, and I have Dax and Roger at my back. Dad’s need to get over themselves.”

“We do not know these men; for all, I know they could be terrible shots. What if they shoot you instead of the bad guys?” Shady growled into the phone.

“Ma, sooner or later, you are going to have to let me go. I get you are worried, but I am an adult, I have been trained and well. So, suck this up and listen to what I have to say.”

Shady made a noise on the other side of the phone; if Jas had to guess, it was probably her mother biting her tongue hard. “Continue,” Shady finally said.

Jas grinned a little and laid out their plans, and the times they would be at the restaurant so they could monitor when she left and which way she was going. Her mother once again made her recite the address of the safe house, and the directions on how to get there from where she was coming into town.

Finally, her mom said in a husky voice, “Listen, baby girl, you know I love you, and you know I would cut off my own arm if it meant you were not hurt. But the way this thing has already gone sideways, I think that is gonna continue. I need to know you are safe. I hate this, you know I do, because I need to be in control and letting you go was one of the hardest things I have ever done. But I did, now I need you to step up, be the bitch you were trained to be, so I do not get that phone call.”

“I hear ya, Mom,” Jas whispered back. “I swear, I remembered everything you and the Riders taught me. You have to trust me.”

“I trust you,” Shady said. “It is the rest of those mother fuckers I do not trust. You know me, and the rest of the club. We will do anything for you, anything.”

“I know I have always known that,” Jas replied.

“I will have my phone all night tonight; you need me you call. I am programmed already on speed dial.”

Jas grinned, “Yea noticed those numbers changed.”

“I can't believe you put your dads ahead of me.” Shady griped.

“Really, this again.” Jas sighed, and Shady continued.

“Even Harmony was upset by that. And don’t get me started with Bob and Freedom.”

“Bob?” Jas asked.

“Yeah, her preggo hormones are making her weird. I think once Bear gets home, it will help, but damn. Right now, all she does is eat Lucky Charms for every meal. So, anything would be better.”

Jas laughed and said, “Okay, we are leaving in an hour, so let me take a pic and send it, you guys can get a kick out of me having normal hair.”

She heard Dax behind her snicker a little, and she turned and glared at him. He held up his hands and turned back to what she was doing.

“We good,” Jas said, and Shady let out a big sigh.

“We are good, your fathers are freaked the fuck out, but we are good. They can figure out it out on their own.” Shady said, and Jas chuckled.

“Yeah, well, make sure you tell them I am prepared,” Jas said, and it was Shady's turn to chuckle.

“Right, like that will work, they already have seats in front of the monitor to track you,” Shady said, and Jas shook her head.

“Gotta go,” Jas said when she turned and saw both Roger and Dax ready to go.

“Call me when you are where you are supposed to be,” Shady said stiffly.

“Yep,” Jas said and then hung up the phone. No goodbyes, not I love you, it was bad luck to go like that, made it sound like they weren’t coming back. Plus, Shady had said it twice today, she was sure that was her limit. Jas learned a long time ago Shady was superstitious.

She turned and grabbed her weapons and her bag, making sure everything was set, and then she said, “Let’s get this shit over with.”

Roger laughed, and Dax just rolled his eyes. She loved to make him do that ‘cause he was kinda cute when he did that. Jas shut off her thoughts and walked to the door leading them out.
