Chapter Sixteen

As they entered the city limits of Paris, all of them looked around, and then Marbles and Easy peeled off first. Next was Maxi and Mace, so the two were finally alone, with Roger already sitting at the café.

Jas hit her mike and said, “You ready?”

Dax turned his head and said, “Yep, come on, let’s go get a thumb drive.”

She turned the throttle up, and both of them shot forward, thinking about one thing, getting home. She spotted them first and wanted to groan, it was the black SUV, which meant it was the mob. She hated dealing with the mob, there were just so, old school. Jas knew the Acciai family and knew with Ricco in charge, they had changed a lot of shit. But most other ‘families’ still did the same shit, they just killed people to get them out of the way. No torture, no questioning to get info, just killing. Now, Chucky’s group, they would have taken them and tortured them to find out what the clubs knew.

“Four cars back on the right,” Jas said, and Dax looked in his rearview mirror and then snapped.

“Why do we get these assholes, we already dealt with them once.”

“I know, the others will have more fun,” Jas grumbled, and then she said, “Calling Mace.”

“Calling Roger,” he said, and they notified everyone they had a tail. They also found out so did the rest of them, well all but Roger who was eating croissants, which pissed Jas off. She wanted a croissant.

As she was thinking of the buttery goodness and looking for their exit, Dax said, “We have another one, in front of us just three cars up, they must have gotten on the last entrance.”

Jas looked and swore under her breath. “We have about six more miles until our exit.”

“We could take the emergency one,” Dax said, slowly moving his hand to unstrap his guns to get ready if needed. He saw Jas do the same thing then she said.

“Let’s stay on this road, there are too many cars for them to do shit without witnesses.”

Dax nodded, even when they got off at their exit, there was still more than a few miles to get to the café. He was thinking they were going to make their move during one of the roundabouts. It was easy to make a crash look like an accident on one of those. They rode in silence for a few miles and then Jas said.

“They are trying to box us in. We need to change our route.”

“Yep, they are trying to get us on the exit ramp,” Dax replied and watched closely. “Move to the other lane and punch it, there is enough room, we can pass them and get off at the next exit, do you remember the map?”

She nodded and did exactly what he said. And suddenly, the two SUVs were stuck behind them with cars blocking them from getting close to Jas and Dax, with a grin she pulled over and then shot down the exit lane.

Both took the roundabout faster than they should have, but they needed to put distance between them if they were going to make it to the café. Jas heard tires behind her squeal, and she looked in her rearview mirror, they were only two cars back. She pushed the throttle, and so did Dax, but they couldn’t move much faster with such tight streets. Fuck, they were too close; they hadn’t put enough distance between them.

They turned a few streets trying to lose them, but they couldn’t. Finally, Jas said into her headset, “Call Roger have him get the drive, we will meet him at the airport. I will check in with the others quickly.”

Dax nodded and then hit his phone; it took moments to change the plans, and he was ready to do what needed to be done now. If they led them to the airport it was over. So, their back up plan was apparently coming into play. “The others are having the same issues, we meet just outside the city, and end this for now. Make sure he tells Vic the payment is coming.”

Dax gunned it, and they moved quickly, leading the assholes through town, making sure they remained on busy streets so nothing could happen yet. They didn’t want the police involved, so they planned on going to where they had a few warehouses Jas had spotted last week on a map. Their plan was if everyone were being tagged, they would lead their pursuers to the warehouse each entering from different ways until they reached the one warehouse, they had people waiting for them with a lot of firepower. Thank God for Dax’s contacts.

“Let them know to get that door open, we are all coming in hot,” she said, and Dax nodded and called his contact and told him. They were only a few blocks from where they could open up and get some distance between them and the SUVs, they needed that distance to get to the warehouse and off the bike in time to defend themselves.

“Well, looks like the whole crew will be together,” Jas said when Dax came back on the com.

“Mobsters and military should be interesting,” Dax said, and Jas laughed.

“Well not a damn one of them are bikers so they can kiss my ass. We do everything better.”

“I know you do, honey,” he said and laughed as they broke free from the traffic and sped up quickly, moving farther and farther away from the men chasing them. Finally, they were making some distance. Jas looked at Dax, who was checking out his mirrors as well and knew he was thinking the same thing she was.

Just before the warehouse, there was a long road that led them to the entrance they were to take. During that time, they were sitting ducks if the SUVs were too close. And since it was impossible to drive a bike and fire behind them, they had no choice if they were too close. They would need to ride through the bullets both knew would be flying.

Jas thought of her mother and wondered what she would do right about now, but she didn’t really need to think about it. The Lady Rider, all of them would do what they had to do in order to get where they needed to go; if it meant driving through a hail of bullets, then that was the way it was. No use crying over spilled milk her mother said more than once.

They had two blocks, and then they were in the open. She looked back, and they were far enough away they could make it, hopefully. She heard Dax say, “If they get too close take to the fields.”

She nodded, on either side of the long road were a field of weeds that would help cover them so they couldn’t get a good shot. They planned to split one on each said, which would make it one SUV against one of them. Slightly better odds, she thought, and then they passed the last house.

She heard both of their engines roar as they sped up down the open road trying to make it to where they had to be. They were halfway to their destination when she heard the first gunshot. Dax said over the com, “Split.”

Jas nodded and then turned sharply and entered the field of weeds, which hurt like a bitch as she drove by them. She heard an SUV behind her before she saw it, they had pulled into the field behind her, and she grinned. Yeah, they were being followed by the mob, they were relentless like that, but she knew something they didn’t because she had planned him.

About a half a mile to her left was a small man-made pond. Her bike could get close without getting in the mud, but they wouldn’t be so lucky she thought, especially if they didn’t know it was there.

She heard someone fire again and felt the bullet wiz by her shoulder, well damn someone has a good aim she thought and then swerved a little, so she wasn’t an easy target.

She heard Dax over the com as he swore and yelled, “Fuckers have an automatic weapon.”

“Shit,” she said and then looked behind her, and sure enough, there was an asshole with this head stuck out the window, preparing to spray her with bullets.

“Evade,” Dax snapped. “Swing to the side the guy is not shooting from, there are only three in the cars.”

“You sure?” she asked, and he said.

“Yep.”

Jas did what he said and swerved to the right as the first bullets were fired. Just a little bit more and she would be hitting the mud, the bad part was she didn’t know exactly where it was at, she would need to rely on how the bike was handling. If she started to hit soft dirt, she needed to turn back to the left.

She heard a grunt in the mic and said, “You okay?”

“Fine,” Dax gritted out just get to the warehouse.

Jas felt her bike turn a little, and she knew she had to pull to the left, which would put her right in the line of fire, but she had no choice. Fuck-a-duck as Harmony would say. So, she turned quickly and felt her backend slide. She was fighting to keep her bike upright when she felt the bullets whiz by her again.

Damn it, when were they going to hit the mud, she thought as she felt a bullet graze her arm. It stung, but she didn’t make a noise; it was nothing compared to when she was shot in the leg, so it was a scratch, she thought.

Jas glanced in her mirror and saw the SUV finally hit the mud and water flew ho as they got close to the small pond. With that, she gunned her engine and headed right for the gate she had to make it to. She heard Dax before she saw him. He was behind her slightly. So, she made it to the gate before he did. With one last look, she saw the SUVs were both far enough back they could get to the warehouse and off the bikes in time.

Taking a deep breath, she hit the edge of the street, and her bike jumped up a little, landing with a thud, which jarred her a little, but she kept going, if she was going to wipe out, she was going to wipe out good.

Dax watched Jas and took a deep breath as she fought to keep her bike up. He had already been shot in the shoulder, but he was ignoring it. They just needed to make it a short distance more, and people would be waiting. Dax looked behind him and saw both SUVs were back far enough now, they had a harder time maneuvering in the loose dirt than the bikes did.

Two rows down and one over, and they were there. Yelling at Jas to move it both pushed their bikes to the max as they took the corners fast and low. Finally, they saw the opening of the door they needed to make it to. He watched as Jas slid to the side and jumped off the bike as it slid right by the door, and she ran in. Fuck she had laid it down, he should have thought of that, the turn was too narrow. Taking a deep breath Dax did the same thing, but he was certain he didn’t look as good as Jas had when she dove into the door. He looked up as one of his friends stepped out of the door with a rocket launcher and fired in the direction of the SUVs. Fuck he hoped like hell he hit one.

He didn’t wait, Dax jumped up and went to where Jas was already grabbing weapons and putting extra magazines in her pockets. “We gotta get the back door open for Mace and Maxi, they should be the ones here next.”

Dax nodded and grabbed what he needed and ran to where one of his other friends was waiting for the signal to open it. Dax yelled loudly and he yanked open the door just as Jas and he reached their positions. “Incoming,” the man yelled, and they saw Mace jumped off her bike and did the same thing Dax and Jas had done. Yeah, Jas really should have thought of that, but honestly, she was glad they had all figured it out.

Mace ran down the building to the weapons table and grabbed a gun and went to the other side where the dude with the rocket launcher was taking fire. Then Dax watched as Jas and Hotdog were providing cover for Maxi, who just pulled up to the door and got off his bike and walked calmly into the building. What in the ever-loving fuck was that all about? He was asking later because suddenly they were getting a lot of bullets riddling the side of the building. He joined with Jas and peaked out and saw five men, there should be six. Before he could get it out of his mouth, he heard someone land on the roof.

“Not the mob, they hate to sweat,” Jas said and held her gun up and began to fire at the ceiling. Dax leaned out and shot at the five men who were taking cover behind the SUV. Fuck, they were going to end up in a standoff because they had two large vehicles. Suddenly a man yelled and fell off the roof right in front of him, and Dax looked over his shoulder and saw Jas smile.

“Oh, hell yeah,” she said, and then she said, “Marbles and Easy are coming from the other direction. We need to give them some cover.”

Dax nodded and then said, “Get me the rifle.”

Jas nodded and ran to the table and grabbed the rifle and brought it back with a box of bullets. Dax was already on the ground, and Jas was frowning. She looked at the other guy who was helping them, and he was laughing hard and loud. What the fuck? She thought.

Easing her way to the side to provide cover, Jas watched as Dax lined up a shot and let go, then she heard the first man scream. Looking quickly, she could see what Dax was doing, he was shooting the legs of the men who were hiding behind the SUV, nice she thought as she saw the last bikers turn down the lane and come right at her with an SUV following.

She aimed and shot quickly before they had a chance to see them, and thank God, she hit the driver, and the SUV swerved and hit the end of another building. The other one stopped, and she could see men sticking their heads out looking to fire. She didn’t give them a chance. And opened fire and snapped.

“Did these fuckers rent all the SUVs in the country or something. I mean, come on.” Jas grumbled and then watched as both Marbles and Easy laid down their bikes at the same time and ran into the building and to the table. Dax laid still watching the bikes sliding with a driver down the small road, and when the time came, he shot again, and the bike closest to the SUV blew the fuck up.

Then Marbles was there with a rocket launcher and yelled. “You mother fucking bastards, these were my favorite boots.” Then she blew the SUV up.

Well, okay then, she thought, the women of the Lady Riders and the Sisters have a little too much anger in them. Someone needed to get laid. The man who was helping them said to Dax, “There is a Humvee right through that door, get in and go, we have this and can keep them busy. We have someone coming to get us.”

Jas ran to the other side and saw that the guy was right, three of the five SUVs were on fire, and the other two were shot to hell. “One way out, guys!” she yelled and ran to the door that Dax had just entered, but then she paused when she felt her ass vibrate and remembered that was where her phone was at. Stopping she pulled it out and looked at the screen and saw her mother was calling her. Seriously?

Jas almost put it back into her pocket and then growled, she wouldn’t have called unless it was important.

“Yeah,” she said quickly and looked at everyone who had stopped to stare at her instead of getting into the Humvee Dax was currently starting up.

“Okay, heads up. Chuck and his cronies are not there, they are at the airport waiting for Roger, you need to hustle your asses up. Mav is ready, but it is only the two of them, and Chucky has friends.”

“Fuck,” Jas said loudly and then yelled. “Get it in the Humvee. “Mav and Roger are about to have company.”

“How did they know?” Dax growled, and Jas muttered.

“We will figure that out later, right now we need to get to Roger and Mav.”

They took the last exit, and Dax put his foot down, the airport was only a few miles away, they had to make sure they could make it on foot if something happened. As they neared, they saw Maverick standing at the entrance to the plane with a gun, yelling at someone and then they saw Roger running. The ducking behind a big container just a few feet from the stairs to the plane.

“Fuck,” Dax said. And turned quickly, hitting a closed gate and bursting on the tarmac and headed straight for the plane. As they got closer Mav turned her head and grinned. Jas rolled her eyes and waved.

“Fuck, we were wrong,” Maxi said, and Jax turned and looked. There were three men with high and tight haircuts in uniform firing at where Roger was hiding. Mav ducked back into the plane, and Jas said.

“Looks like Chucky came to play. We need to get the fuck on the plane and out of here. Having a shootout at the airport is going to draw too much attention, and I want that drive out of this country.” Jas said, and she heard grunts of agreement.

“We will take him down on our own soil,” Dax growled, and Jas nodded. “Hold on.” He yelled and pulled the wheel sharply and turned the Humvee close to the steps, and giving Roger cover as well.

As they all jumped out of one side of the vehicle, Roger was already half-way up the stairs, and Mav was firing with her large automatic weapon.

The rest of them provided cover for the older man and also the plane, all they needed was for that fucker to explode. Jas yelled one by one at her team members to get their asses into the plane until it was Maxi, her and Dax left, and Maxi said.

“Don’t even fucking think about it, get your asses up there.”

Dax nodded and said, “Go, I will cover you.”

Jas wanted to argue, but she didn’t. Instead, she turn and ran, unfortunately, she didn’t run fast enough, three steps up she felt like her arm was pulled from her body as it was flung forward from the force of the bullet that just entered it. She didn’t cry out, but she felt Dax behind her pulling her up by the back of her pants and shoving her up the stairs until she fell into the cabin and rolled. Dax followed, and finally Maxi entered.

“They are running,” he said calmly and then looked down at Jas then Dax. “You have about seventeen hours to figure out how you are going to stay alive when Shady sees Jas was shot.”

“Hey,” Jas snapped.

“Just being real,” Maxi said, and Easy laughed.

“You know, it is never boring when we go on missions, I kinda miss this being retired and all. Thinking I need to see if the Furies want to use us as back up more.”

Maxi coughed and said, “I was thinking the same thing.”

“Sista, we need to get that wound cleaned and bandaged Maxi you gonna dig for the bullet?”

Maxi replied, “Fuck no, make Dax do it, I am not facing Shay when she is pissed and tell her I caused Jas more pain by pulling out the fucking bullet.”

Dax rolled his eyes and said, “You guys are pussies.”

Jas just groaned as they pulled her up ‘cause damn it, she hated being shot, but at least she was going to have scars like the Lady Riders to tell stories about.
