• Fleece scrap, at least 8 inches long
• Chalk
• Scissors
• Measuring tape
• ¹⁄₂-inch-wide sewing elastic
• Sewing needle

A NOTE FOR GROWN-UPS

This beginner’s project is simple and fun. You’ll want to help sewers measure the elastic carefully so the mask will fit just right and not be too tight.

Instructions

1. 1. Print and cut out the pattern piece. Use chalk to trace the pattern onto fleece one time.
   
2. 2. Cut out the fleece piece.
   
3. 3. Measure and cut the elastic to fit your head. Get a friend or an adult to help you. You want the elastic to go from eye to eye without stretching.
   
4. 4. Sew one end of the elastic to the inside of the mask. Stitch it to the middle of one side.
   
5. 5. Use a running stitch to make an X. This will hold the elastic in place well.
   
6. 6. Sew the other end of the elastic to the other side of the mask.
   
7. 7. Turn the mask over. This is the front.
