Acknowledgments

So many have come to see me at my bakery, written me letters, and contacted me on social media, simply to tell me their stories. All I am is somebody out there who gets it. If your story is unheard, I get that. If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired every day of your life, I get that.

More people are beginning to get it too. Even doctors. I would like to thank the doctors out there who understand and know that food is also medicine: To the naturopaths, the functional medicine docs, the holistic healers, and also to the clean-food chefs and activists producing and advocating for quality food, thank you for spreading the message. Also, thank you to the health food bloggers and the community who strive to bring us, the public, better quality food and information, so we can all eat cleaner and feel well. They understand that life doesn’t have to involve compromises in eating or excuses for health issues. It can be lived fully—happily and deliciously.

I also must thank the warriors who picked me up and carried me when I hit the ground. I treasure you more than words can explain. Deb, Scott, Jesper, Rick, Patrick, Ralph—no words but thank you. Also thanks to Ana, my dear, loyal, enthusiastic, creative, patient, hardworking friend. If it wasn’t for you, helping me keep my little 400-square-foot bakery moving, this journey might have ended.

Sometimes hard lessons disguised as people and situations can make you question it all. As painful as some life lessons or health situations are, sometimes the only way to go forward and to grow is by stepping back and allowing the world to simply unfold, to show you what is, rather than only what you wish was true. This is how we move forward—by having gratitude for how we learn and grow, especially when confronted by adversity. We really have only one true choice: always and ever onward!
