One of the reasons I always make my own plant milk is that almost every boxed plant milk (and many other products) you can buy contains a stabilizer called carrageenan. This is a very common food additive derived from red seaweed. Now, this doesn’t sound like a bad thing, and technically it is a “natural” product. However, carrageenan has been linked to digestive problems, and may be a trigger for an immune response such as inflammation. There is even some evidence that it could lead to ulcerations and bleeding. Because it may be particularly bad for anyone who already has digestive or stomach issues, I avoid it completely.
